Summer Job

The last week or so, I have felt the need to get a second job for the summer. I miss having to actually do physical work. I think that getting a summer job that involves actual work would be good for me. I think having to work hard is a good thing, in some respects. And I almost forget what working hard is like. I also need something to do when Matt has to go to drill. There is only so much house cleaning this girl can do. Plus, I'm only taking an online class this summer.

I talked to one of my friends that still works at Denny's. (I was the GM there when I was 22.) I was honestly (not trying to toot my horn here) the best cook I ever had there. It was hard work and good exercise. Anywho, I talked to my friend and told her that I would cook with her on Saturday mornings over the summer. I called there yesterday to talk to the GM. She was one of my assistant managers when I worked there. She said I was nonrehirable for life. I walked out of there because another assistant was trying to get me fired and because I was 22 and sick of working 70 a week. I laughed. Nonrehirable. For Life. Me? Oh well, her loss, not mine.

I have another idea though. It involves slinging drinks at a Veteran's bar in the town we live in. We'll see. I'm going to work on that this week. I hope it works out.

I don't want to work a lot. Just one or two nights a week or less. I'm just getting burnt out on sitting on my butt all day playing desk jockey.

However, I do not want a second job bad enough to go back to my last job. I know I could go back there but there are just too many teenagers and too much drama. Nobody there wants to grow up.

Hope you are all having a good week and enjoying the warmer weather!

Randomnessism

* Yesterday it was so beautiful out that when I left work I decided to wash my car. Upon leaving the car wash I thought, it's so nice I'll open the sunroof. Yeah bad idea. I got wet.

* I talked to asswipe. Long story short, he didn't want to pay me. I caused a little stink and I'm getting paid. $128. My assumption about him being an asswipe was very much correct. On my way out, he said if they needed me to take notes for another student he would contact me. I told him, "No that's ok."

* Before I met with asswipe, I met with my adviser. She was really nice. After next spring folks, I will have a certificate in Accounting if all goes as planned. An actual piece of paper that says I'm college edumacated. That will be tuff. Real tuff.

* I weighed myself today. With my shoes on I lost 2 pounds. Without my shoes on I lost 4. I can't remember if my original weight was with or without my shoes on so we'll go with without them on. I've been riding my gazelle or walking every night. I've even sweated. Matt and I went on a walk Friday night and he forced encouraged me to jog half a block and I almost died. I'm sure it will get easier.

* I quit drinking Pepsi. But I'd give my left arm for one right now.

* I have a class tonight and one in the morning and then it is FINALLY spring break.

Write On!

This week I am linking up with Tattoos and Teething Rings and writing for "Write On".

The prompt I chose this week is, "How did you meet your husband/wife (or boyfriend/girlfriend?"

Matt and I met when we were around 16. (12 years ago) We were friends with the same group of people. I don’t really remember where we first met. He went to a different high school than me but mostly hung out in the town I live in. He dated a girl in my class for years. She wasn’t really friends with my group of friends and she really didn’t care for hanging out with us. So, a lot of times if Matt was hanging out with us it was because he had broke up with her so that he could.

He and I worked at the same factory the summer after our senior year of high school along with a couple of our other friends. So a lot of us would party together after work. Then, after that I was working 3rd shift waiting tables at Denny’s (best money I’ve ever made, by the way). He was still working at the factory that we had worked at together. He would come over to my house about one a week, usually right after I had fallen asleep at 2 in the afternoon and want me to go boozing with him. About 9 times out of 10 I would tell him no because I had to work that night.

After this, I had a few relationships and wouldn’t see him for months at a time. But I always considered him a good friend even when we wouldn’t see or talk to each other for a period of time. Then I heard that he went to the Army. I didn’t get to say good-bye.

Fast forward about 2 years (3 years ago). It was actually probably about October too. I got a friend request on MySpace from Matt. He gave me his phone number and I immediately called him. He was stationed out at Ft. Lewis, WA. We texted and talked until he came home for Christmas that year. That Christmas we feel in love. I knew before he ever came home that I loved him. I loved the fact that we had known each other for so long and he knew so much about me.

Matt left to go back to Ft. Lewis and I made a trip out there around Valentine’s Day. He came home again in April. Around the end of May I went out there and stayed with him for 6 weeks before he left for Iraq in June.

While he was in Iraq, I worked two jobs. I missed that boy more than words can express. I sent him packages all the time and whoever went through his mail said he got the best packages out of his whole unit. I made him blankets and sent to him. I sent him cards every holiday.

He came home for R & R in December and we got engaged. No real romantic story to tell here. He asked me to marry him before he went to Iraq but I didn’t want to be “that girl” that got married because her man was going to war. I don’t look down on anyone that does this; it just wasn’t for me. He asked me to marry him again on the phone from Iraq and told me to pick out a ring. When he got home for R & R, we got my ring and got our engagement pictures taken.

We had planned on going to Cancun and getting married on the beach during the summer of 2009. About 6 weeks before he came home we decided to get married as soon as he came home. This mean I had 6 weeks to plan a wedding. I bought our wedding bands.

Matt came back from Iraq on August 22, 2008 (14 and a half months) and we got married on 9/5/08 at a little wedding chapel around here by a hippie preacher and had our reception at a bar here also. After all was said and done, we spent around 2 grand on our wedding. I don’t regret for a minute not having a big fancy wedding.

Matt thought he was getting out of the Army in April. So, I stayed at home and waited for him. He ended up not getting out until the end of July because his contract said 4 years and 22 weeks. I took on the responsibility of finding a house and was able to mail him all of the paperwork he needed to sign. I made numerous trips out to see him between the time we were married and the time he got to come home.

I made my last trip out there on 7/28/09 and we were able to drive his car home together. Matt enlisted in the Army Reserves to cut his IRR time in half and we are finally living the life that we have been waiting on for three years.

I love awards!

This week I got another award. When I first started blogging I didn't get any awards for a long time. I thought I was a virtual lame ass. Look at me now. ;)

This one came from Dawn at Must Love Tots. Dawn was friend of mine in high school, we lost touch, and met back up through the blogging world. She is the mama of two beautiful kids and should be nominated for daughter of the year. Her blog is so funny and always makes me laugh. Thanks Dawn!

Here's the rules:
• Thank the person who gave this to you.
• Copy the logo and place it on your blog. Link the Person who nominated you.
• Name ten fun facts about yourself.

1. I suck at listing ten facts about myself. It usually takes me days to think of ten things. We'll see if I can think of ten of the top of my head.

2. Cardinals spring training games on today and tomorrow. I'm super pumped. Baseball season is so close I can feel it.

3. I'm leaving work early today to go talk to my adviser and asswipe.

4. I'm going to try to lose some weight. I never really cared about doing so before because Matt thinks I'm sexy and stuff. Besides, I thought I'd be pregnant by now so I would be fat anyways. Now it's getting nice out and I can't fit in my summer clothes. Don't worry my blog won't become overtaken with my work-out and eating routine.

5. I believe that happiness comes for the inside and not what a person looks like on the outside. Being a little on the heavy side shouldn't make a person unhappy.

6. I really hope it is nice this weekend. If it is Matt and I and my seester and her boyfriend friend that is a boy might go four-wheeler riding.

7. I'm ready for mushroom hunting. I'm not sure where in the U.S. they can be found but google it. Morel mushrooms. They grow in the woods here. Mushroom hunting involves drinking beer and walking around in the woods. Good times.

8. No, I will not give up beer in the summer in order to lose weight. I might try a lower calorie beer. Like Bud 55 but I heard it tastes like Clydesdale urine. So, no promises.

9. Spring is my friend. I can't wait to be playing outside on the weekends.

10. I'm starting to think that spring break is just an illusion. I keep hearing that it is going to happen but it's taking forever to get here.

And now to passing this on to 5 blogger buddies of mine:

Kate @ Sometimes Life is Messy
Jessie @ What You Wish For
Missy @ Everything But The Kitchen Sink
Rose @ Desert Rose Moments
Katie @ The Adventures of Katie and Josh

Hope everyone has a great weekend! Bring on the sunshine!

Taking Notes (Part 2)

When this semester started, I was contacted by the Student Accommodations Office to take notes for a boy in my class. I wrote about that here.

Well turns out somethings are too good to be true. First of all, I thought by doing this I thought I would be able to help someone who wanted and needed it. This boy is not famous as one of my commenters suggested. He can't hear very well. Well the little turd has only showed up to class twice, the first week and the third week.

The class is a breeze. We go in and the teacher talks for about 30 minutes and then gives us an assignment and then we get the rest of the class (about an hour and a half) to work on it. Since the little stinker never shows up, I scan my notes and the handout with the assignment on it every week and email it to him. (I would say that's going above and beyond.) He never emails me back to say if he got it, if he's dropping the class, or whatever is going on.

I emailed the guy at the Student Accommodations office last week and asked him if this kid was still in my class. I explained that he never comes and I just wanted to know if I still needed to be sending him the notes. He said he would find out at the mid-term from our teacher and let me know.

I then asked him when I would be seeing some money. Then the guy turns into a complete asswipe and gets an attitude with me. He said that I was given time sheets when I meet with his secretary. Uh no asswipe, I never met with your secretary, she mailed me some payroll information to fill out and then about a month after the class started I finally got the carbon paper they had promised me.

I think this guy thinks I'm a 19 year old punk (no offense). I work, go to school, and play wife. I'm not an idiot. I have had plenty of jobs. I know the drill. Most jobs inform you of stuff like that.

Yesterday he had the balls to tell me I needed to drive half an hour to the main campus TODAY. Ummm no. I had class this morning, class this evening, and I have to work 8 hours today. Then this morning he sends me another shitty email saying if I still want to take notes I need to meet up with him. Excuse me buddy, I'm trying to help someone out, no need to have an attitude.

I want to be able to help someone (who is not going to take advantage of it) and the added perk of maybe being paid someday would be nice but I feel like telling this guy to shove it. I don't have the time or the energy for him to drag me down.
